Jeremy Aguero

Principal Analyst, Applied Analysis

Jeremy Aguero is a principal analyst with Applied Analysis, a leading economic, fiscal and policy research firm based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aguero’s 20-plus-year work history demonstrates a wide range of abilities. He has performed countless economic and fiscal impact assessments for projects of local, regional and national significance.

Aguero also acted as lead staff for the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee. The committee’s 16-months of public hearing ultimately culminated in a Special Session of the Nevada State Legislature where Senate Bill 1 paved the way for a $1.9 billion NFL stadium and $1.4 billion convention center expansion and Assembly Bill 1 provided increase funding for police officers within the regions tourism corridor and throughout southern Nevada. Aguero leads the staff for the Las Vegas Stadium Authority.

Aguero is also active in the community. He has taught hotel law and data for policy analysis as distinguished professor of practice at UNLV. He also serves on the advisory board of Nevada State Bank and the R&R Foundation board. Aguero was previously the treasurer of Nevada Child Seekers and chairman of Opportunity Village’s ARC Board. He has been honored as the Hispanic of Year by the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce and Alumni of the Year by both the Boyd School of Law and University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Bo Bernhard, Ph.D.

UNLV Vice President, Economic Development

A 5th generation Nevadan, Dr. Bo Bernhard calls Las Vegas home, but he works frequently in jurisdictions as diverse as South Africa, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Macao, Mexico, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, Portugal, Albania, Austria, Greece, England, Serbia, and Canada – as well as dozens of states in the U.S. Dr. Bernhard began his research career at Harvard University, where as an undergraduate he completed a double major (sociology and psychology) magna cum laude thesis on the socio-economic impacts of the gaming industry in Nevada – while captaining the baseball team and earning outstanding player awards on the nationally-ranked soccer team. The foundations of Bo’s undergraduate analysis have since been extended worldwide, and by the age of 30, Dr. Bernhard had lectured on six continents.

After earning his Ph.D. in 2002, Dr. Bernhard was named the inaugural Research Director at the UNLV International Gaming Institute, and he was awarded the campus’ first-ever dual professorship — in hotel management and sociology. In 2013, he was named Executive Director at the IGI, where he oversees all academic and business functions. Under his leadership, the organization has grown from two employees to 51, with five “centers of excellence” in gaming-hospitality-tourism. In 2021, he was named a university vice president, where he oversees all economic development and diversity functions for the university, including oversight of a new incubator and accelerator for entrepreneurs. Representing the university in these roles, Dr. Bernhard has delivered over 300 global keynote addresses in government, business, and policy settings. He has published in the top journals in both the business sciences (including Cornell Quarterly) and the social sciences (including a guest edited special volume of American Behavioral Scientist), and currently serves as executive editor for a leading peer-reviewed academic journal, Gaming Research and Review.

Dr. Bernhard’s projects have been prominently featured in local and national media outlets (including The New York Times, The Discovery Channel, The Australian Broadcasting Channel, The History Channel, CNN, PBS, NPR, and all three major US networks). These efforts have earned him several awards: in 2007, his focus on globalization earned him the World Affairs Council’s International Educator of the Year award; in 2008, he was given the UNLV Hotel College’s top research award, the Boyd Award for Research; in 2009, he was given the Hotel College’s top teaching award and the university-wide Spanos Teaching Award; in 2010, he was named a Lincy Fellow at Brookings Mountain West; and in 2013 he was given the university-wide Barrick Scholar Award and the hotel college’s Denken Career Award for research. In 2016, he was awarded the university’s top research distinction, the Harry Reid Silver State Research Award, making him the only individual in the history of UNLV to win the university’s top research and teaching awards. Since 2016, Dr. Bernhard has held the Philip G. Satre Chair, the most prestigious chair in the gaming field, which makes him the only faculty member in Nevada to hold a chair at both of the state’s major research universities. Most recently, ESPN profiled Dr. Bernhard for his rare research-based academic impact in bringing the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas, in a manner that effectively countered long-harbored doubts on the city’s viability and integrity (see this link).

About the Event

Now in its 41st year, Perspective is the region’s premier source for community and economic development information, analysis, and forecasting. It has become a valuable resource for a diverse group of companies, ranging from small business entrepreneurs to some of the largest in Nevada, as it not only provides a comprehensive overview of the market as it stands today but also an economic forecast component to give expert opinion about where the market is headed.

This year, Perspective will focus on “Our Next Evolution: from Resilient to Unstoppable”. Get ready for a packed morning on topics such as innovation, industry disruption, the acceleration of tech, and most importantly how we as a community move beyond recovery. Together, we can become unstoppable.

Perspective would not be possible without the financial and in-kind contributions of generous community organizations and businesses. The sponsor companies comprising the LVGEA’s Perspective Council put this valuable content in your hands and guide the research and thoughtful analysis.
