Speakers
Christopher Thornberg
Founding Partner, Beacon Economics
Christopher Thornberg founded Beacon Economics LLC in 2006. Under his leadership the firm has become one of the most respected research organizations in California serving public and private sector clients across the United States. In 2015, Dr. Thornberg also became Director of the UC Riverside School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development and an Adjunct Professor at the School.
An expert in economic and revenue forecasting, regional economics, economic policy, and labor and real estate markets, Dr. Thornberg has consulted for private industry, cities, counties, and public agencies. He became nationally known for forecasting the subprime mortgage market crash that began in 2007, and was one of the few economists on record to predict the global economic recession that followed. Dr. Thornberg holds a Ph.D in Business Economics from The Anderson School at UCLA, and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Jeremy Aguero
Principal, Applied Analysis
Jeremy Aguero is a principal analyst with Applied Analysis, a leading economic, fiscal and policy research firm based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Aguero’s 20-plus-year work history demonstrates a wide range of abilities. He has performed countless economic and fiscal impact assessments for projects of local, regional and national significance.
Aguero also acted as lead staff for the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee. The committee’s 16-months of public hearing ultimately culminated in a Special Session of the Nevada State Legislature where Senate Bill 1 paved the way for a $1.9 billion NFL stadium and $1.4 billion convention center expansion and Assembly Bill 1 provided increase funding for police officers within the regions tourism corridor and throughout southern Nevada. Aguero leads the staff for the Las Vegas Stadium Authority.
Aguero is also active in the community. He has taught hotel law and data for policy analysis as distinguished professor of practice at UNLV. He also serves on the advisory board of Nevada State Bank and the R&R Foundation board. Aguero was previously the treasurer of Nevada Child Seekers and chairman of Opportunity Village’s ARC Board. He has been honored as the Hispanic of Year by the Las Vegas Latin Chamber of Commerce and Alumni of the Year by both the Boyd School of Law and University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
